3 out of 5 stars Switching from Filemaker Pro   July 31, 2010
Cynthia L. Wagoner (Greensboro, NC)
The only complaint I have is that I can't download the Filemaker pro files I already have and upload them into Endnote. And don't let anyone fool you - even the computer geeks are struggling with this. Makes retyping 350 references very frustrating. I hope in the end I am happy with all the features of the program - seems like I should be.

5 out of 5 stars essential software for academic writing   June 5, 2010

I'm sure there are other software packages available for the same purpose, but I've found EndNote to be more than capable of doing everything I need it to do. It's a bit pricey, but worth it. If you're a student you may be able to access a keyserver version from your university. However ... I'd take advantage of the student pricing to buy it for yourself before you graduate.

4 out of 5 stars Student edition = full edition   February 5, 2010

I looked over the EndNote web site, and it turns out the disc inside the box is the same for both versions, but the "student version" is substantially cheaper and available only to students, pending some sort of proof of student status. Amazon does not check student status and had the best price for this software that I could find, so I bought it and have been very happy with it. I was using v.7 before, and I love how x3 links to PubMed, etc. and pulls down links for you.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent software   January 9, 2010

This is a great program if you write papers. I just finished a major paper with 45 references and it probably saved days of my life. The internet connectivity allows you to connect to pubmed, the national library, etc. You can find just about any reference you need and it will reformat the citations to whatever journal you are publishing to. This is excellent software. Thank you.

4 out of 5 stars Endnote makes citations EASY!   November 16, 2009

I have used Endnote for years now and the X3 version does not disappoint. I don't use any of the web features so I can't say much about that, but the basic functionality is great. As Endnote is so widely used, you can export citations from any number of sources, including google scholar, making it easy to get citation information. It is then very simple to insert your citations into Word (I haven't tried it with any other word processor). My only complaint is the reference section formatting doesn't seem to work exactly how it should. For some reason, every time I exit my document and get back into it, I have to reformat the references section how I want it to look and not all of the options even work. For example, I want the citations to be single-spaced with a hanging indentation and 1 blank line after each citation. This is supposedly an option but when I check the boxes to do this, everything looks good except for the hanging indent. However, the next time I open my document, all the formatting is gone and I have to do it again, which is pretty annoying.

So overall, I would say that it's a pretty good product that makes my life *a lot* easier, but there still are some minor annoyances that you have to deal with and it would be very nice if they just went away.
